Job description: #IND

  • Diagnosing and treating a wide range of eye diseases as well as helping to facilitate the management of related systemic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, sexually transmitted diseases, and rheumatologic conditions.
  • Providing treatment of visual disorders through prescription of corrective lenses (to include contact lenses when appropriate according to policy and subject to approval of the Clinical Director) and vision training and pharmacological means.
  • Performing minor surgical procedures including, but not limited to, anterior segment foreign body removal and suture removal.
  • Completing ocular tonometry exams and full visual field tests.
  • Recognizing the need for referral to other providers, such as ophthalmologists, and following proper procedures for ordering consultations outside of the institution

Education and Experience

Individuals providing optometry services under the contract award must meet all the following requirements:

1. Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Optometry degree from an educational program that is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) at the time the degree was obtained.

2. Licensure: Applicants must have received a passing score on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) examinations and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

3. Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross

Schedule:

Ordinarily, the contract employee will be expected to complete a minimum of 20 scheduled patient encounters per 8 session workday.
